gifts of the forest INSPIRATION

Erin Trumble

IMG_5759.JPG

I am so excited to start sharing some of the latest pieces in a series that i’m currently creating called GIFTS OF THE FOREST. In this blog post I wanted to give you a sneak peak at some of the first to be released, and where the inspiration came from!

GIFTS OF THE FOREST was born from the beauty that captures my soul in the expansive woods behind my home. There is a constant change and cycle of life and death that is always moving and flowing. Each day there is always something new. Sometimes is a perfect little patch of tiny mushrooms that popped up over night, or a randomly found bone. This series is completely inspired by all those happy gifts from the forest.

amazonite

stone of balance

If you guys have been here for a while you know how much I love amazonite. Aside from it’s stunning blue green color, what I find to be one of the coolest things about it is that it comes from the mountains of Colorado. Pike’s Peak region to be exact. The balance of the beauty of life and death that the forest offers is forever awe inspiring, just like these sweet little BALANCE earrings.

Y’all I love lichen. I can’t tell you how many hundreds of lichen pictures I have saved on all of my devices. Im obsessed with the colors, the textures, the patterns, and the absolute randomness of it all. Lichen is proof that Mother Nature must be just a little bit silly. The LICHEN bracelet was inspired by this beautiful randomness of Mother Nature.

Well I hope you guys enjoyed a quick little peek inside my brain! And get yourself ready for these items and a few other designs to be launched on 2/22 at 8am MST.

The "This is what she REALLY wants this Valentine's Day" gift guide!

Erin Trumble

Guess what time it is?!?!? Time for our Valentine’s Day Gift Guide! Here’s the thing, wether you love love or the thought of hearts and cupid makes you wanna puke, I promise you will love THIS gift guide! While I do love the idea of Valentine’s Day, I’m not into all the mushy stuff, so here’s the list of non-mushy alternatives for your gal!

Say “I LOVE YOU!” with Craft Boner…

Let Hallmark keep those cheesy sappy (and can we also mention ugly) Valentines cards and say “I love you!” or even just “kinda like you” with Craft Boner. Yes, you read that right, I said Boner. My Gal, Kiwi, is 1. probably the funniest human I know and 2. a seriously awesome stationary creator! Her online shop is full of funny cards, inappropriate coffee mugs, and even silly baby onesies! So hop on over and find the perfect greeting card for your one and only!

Skip the lingerie and give me all the cozy tops…

Do y’all see this henley!?!?! I mean perfection right! Due South is literally one of the best shops in town (and online). They have this perfect mix of daily wear clothes with special pieces mixed in. Their style is so effortless and the design and decor sections are to die for! Let’s be real here…. NO ONE, I mean no one, likes lingerie! So this Valentine’s day, lets all get into this cozy little number!

Keep your flowers that will die…

I’ve never been one to swoon over cut flowers. I’m a crazy plant lady for sure, but honestly I’d rather not have flowers around that I’m just waiting for them to wither and die! You know what’s better than plants though, TATTOOS!!!! You can tattoo me with all the flowers! So this Valentine’s Day, I say keep your flowers that will die, make a real statement and tattoo that rose on me instead! I’m putting a Claw and Talon Gift Certificate on this years Valentine’s Day gift guide for this exact reason!

All the funky candles…

I really love unique candles, almost as much as I really love my friend and photographer, Ashley Tiedgen! You know, the genius behind all the amazing photos on this website! Well she started a little passion project called @CurateTheNow (on IG). She’s finding forgotten treasures and giving them a makeover just for you! I especially love all the awesome candles that she’s been creating in fun found containers! I already snagged this beauty for an “I love you” gift to myself!

Don’t forget the jewelry…

Guys, did you really think I was going to make an entire gift guide and not include JEWELRY! Come on! The Pinolith Pathway Necklace is such a show stopper! This larger sized, simply shaped pendant is so easy to wear (yes, with that henly!) and the pop of stone inlay really sets it apart! Show her just how much you love her with a piece of jewelry that is just as unique as she is!

Do you get post holiday burnout?

Erin Trumble

restrecoverymotivatoin.jpg

Hey friends! Happy New Year! We made it to the other side of 2020 and a seriously amazing holiday season. But I’m wondering, do you get post holiday burnout? Wether your are in the handmade/creative industry and you spent countless hours literally working your fingers to the bone, or your a Christmas fanatic and you spent days and days slaving away in the kitchen to bake cookies for everyone you know, or if the holidays just tire you out, here’s what I do every single year to get over the exhaustion and start fresh in the new year!

The first step for me is REST. Years ago this one was really hard for me. I’m a busy body, and get all the negative feelings when I’m “doing nothing”, but it turns out that is exactly what I need to be doing….nothing. Before understanding this about myself I used to place a lot of guilt around skipping a. workout, sleeping in, or just taking the day to sit on the couch and watch bad rom coms. But do you know what? It turns out that if I just chill the fuck out and listen to my body, it knows what I need to really recharge my batteries! So rest! Take a week or three off from the hustle and bustle of life and work and all the extra shit we pile up on our plates, and just rest! Now I’m not saying to shirk all responsibilities here, but let the house get a little messy, catch up on some garbage TV, cook a frozen dinner, you do you sis!

As I let my body rest and reset another key thing happens, RECOVERY. I don’t know if y’all saw my IG story a few months ago, but there was a point mid holiday rush when my hands were in really bad shape. When you make stuff for a living, that’s a terrible position to be in. This whole thing came to a head as I sat in tears at my bench unable to put a knife together because my fingers were so badly cut, bruised, and arthritic feeling. When I made that post I was overwhelmed with the amount of suggestions and remedies that you guys shared with me! Here’s what worked the best: for instant relief I soaked my hands in hot water with epsom salt, coconut oil, and peppermint and lavender essential oils. Then rubbed them down with arnica gel. It was so relaxing and took the pain away quickly. Then a sweet friend of mine sent me a care package full of some really amazing products that she created! (Be on the look out later this month for a feature on her and her amazing company) Using her products became ritual acts for me and aided in the long term recovery of my hands (and so much more!). I am blow away with the results!

This RECOVERY time was so good for my hands, but also totally crucial for my mind. Just slowing down and letting my brain clear out all the “to-do’s” allows me to start to think about what’s next. And that’s how we get to MOTIVATION. There’s this slippery slope between sitting around and watching that next episode of Love Island (yes I really love garbage television) to let my mind and body rest and recover, and “Alright Erin, It’s time to get back to work!” In the past I’ve found that if I go too long without working, it get’s really hard to start back up again. What works for me to start the fire back up? Making plans! All over my house there are tiny pieces of paper that have doodles for new ideas that I didn’t have to time to think about last quarter. I’d say that 90% of my doodles will never actually get made, but sketching ideas out is a great way for me to get re-focused on the task at hand. I also find that this time of year is great for working on some projects that are a little different, and maybe totally just for fun with no intention of selling them, you know just to get the creative juices flowing again. This year I also decided that I’m pulling the trigger on some collaborations that I’ve been talking about doing for far too long now. I’m really looking forward to creating with some of my favorite creators.

So, If you’ve made it this far, holy shit. Hahah that was a long one, but self care is a long road! There’s no quick fix to fully taking care of yourself. I hope that you are all finding yourselves rested, recovered, and motivated to take on this next year. I’d love to hear about how you are finding relief from the holiday season and 2020 in general! Share you tips, tricks, and ideas in the comments below and cheers to a New Year!

TOP 5: Up your lounge wear game

Erin Trumble

IMG_3855.JPG

Let’s face it, as the temperatures start to drop and the leaves change and fall, all I want to wear is the comfiest and coziest of lounge wear. However, lounge wear is a slippery slope. I like to look semi put together, and lounge wear can tend to look a little sloppy. So here’s my advice on how to take all those elastic waist bands and over sized sweat shirts to the next level! Let’s up our lounge wear game!

The Claire Necklace

Erin Trumble

Could you imagine spending the last quarter of your senior year of high school stuck at home? Remote learning, no prom, no graduation, no friends and family celebrating your huge successes? Like so many teens around the world, that’s how Claire spent her final days of high school. I had the honor of taking Claire’s senior portraits earlier in the fall and she really really made an impact on me.

IMG_A261428C412A-1.jpeg

She is so smart and graceful, while being one of the kindest and humble young ladies I’ve ever met!

Some amazing members of our community set up an “Adopt a Senior” program to help them celebrate their gradution, and I scooped Claire up right away! This girl worked so hard and graduated Valedictorian. To honor this huge accomplishment I wanted to design a necklace inspired by her!

IndependentMountainCoJewelry-AshleyTiedgenPhotography-33.jpg

The necklace was created with the idea of there always being great things to come on the horizon.

I really loved being able to gift one of these necklaces to Claire, and I’m so excited to see what amazing things she has ahead on the horizon as she starts her first year at Arizona State! Congratulations Claire, and all the graduating class of 2020!

TOP 5: Staying Fit during COVID-19

Erin Trumble

Man it is so easy to just slack off and eat all the cookies during this pandemic. With gyms closing and stress compiling, I knew that I was going to have to change my workout routine. Prior to everything closing, I would spend multiple hours a week at the gym lifting weights, spinning, and working that elliptical, and my family spent weekends training in Parkour at a world renowned training facility. Well, all that came to a screeching halt with closures, and then unfortunately our local rec center and parkour gym were both forced to close permanently due to financial losses. Now that I was stuck at home it was time for a new routine, and here are the TOP 5 things ( in no particular order) that kept me fit and motivated to prioritize my health during COVID-19.

So there is it! My first TOP 5 list for you! I can’t wait to hear what awesome things you have been doing to stay fit for the past few months! Please comment and share what awesome routines you have made, how you are making healthy choices for your body and mind, and what awesome fitness entrepreneurs are keeping you in check!

Retrograde Inspiration

Erin Trumble

The Negative Series, Daniel Taylor

The Negative Series, Daniel Taylor

When we hear “retrograde” the first thing we think about is all the bad shit that’s about to happen. During this season of so many planets in retrograde (Saturn, Jupiter, and Venus are all doing their backwards dance) I am trying to reframe the way I see things. While the dictionary does define retrograde as moving backwards, I’m viewing it as an opportunity revisit things from the past, pick up old projects, and update some beloved jewelry designs.

Years ago I played with a necklace design that featured a raw stone floating inside of a brass ring. It was a very popular style and I’d always dreamed of one day jazzing it up and bringing it back. For the retrograde collection I choose a bolder and more refined stone, settling on labradorite. It seemed like the perfect choice.

Screen Shot 2020-07-07 at 3.23.05 PM.png

why?

Labradorite is used against negativity and gives you a realistic view of life. It stimulates your consciousness, strengthens intuition, reduces anxiety, and gives you confidence.

Planets in retrograde are actually an optical illusion, so remember that while things may seem to be moving backwards, they are really on the path to moving forwards. Protect your energy within your own orbit by creating a shield from negativity. Purify your own energy by always looking towards the light, and take this time for some inner reflection.

I am so excited for the late July release of the Retrograde Collection. A mini collection featuring shapes that are drawn from orbiting planets, guiding points, and looking inwards. This will be a limited release and when they are gone they are gone for good.

Sparkle + Stone is now Independent Mountain Jewelry Co.

Erin Trumble

Screen Shot 2020-06-16 at 3.06.13 PM.png

So much is uncertain in the world right now. Changes have been made in our lives to adapt to the ever uncertain situations. From a business standpoint, people are pivoting and moving in new directions, and companies are taking a stand for what they truly believe in, ethically.

With that being said, I’ve decided that Sparkle + Stone needs a face-lift. A few months ago, it was brought to my attention that there was another jewelry company out there operating under the name Sparkle and Stone. The woman running this business is an independent sales consultant for a MLM called Paparazzi. Before I go any further in this story, I want to clearly state that I am in no way speaking poorly about this company or their ethics. However, the basis of their company is the antithesis of the way I choose to operate mine.

For months I’ve been going back and forth about how to handle this situation. I really tried to not let it bother me, and kicked myself a bunch of times for not trademarking the name properly….like I absolutely should have! And then it happened….my worst fear in this entire situation. We were confused. I was contacted on IG by someone telling me that they had followed the “other Sparkle and Stone” on accident. They had realized quickly that it was not the correct company that they had been searching for due to the extreme difference in style and quality of the other jewelry.

You see, those two words, right there, are exactly what sets our two companies apart. The core values of my company are to always offer a unique style of jewelry, that is made by my hands, to last you a lifetime. When I tell you something is one of a kind you can be certain that there isn’t a factory in China mass-producing thousands more, just like it. You can treasure the fact that it is uniquely yours.

All of that being said, I’m looking at this as the perfect opportunity to freshen up the name of my company to something that more closely aligns with my core values. To be honest “Sparkle + Stone” sort of accidentally became the name of my business and I never truly felt super closely connected with it.

I am very excited to share my new name with you and promise that it’s the only thing that’s changing. You can still expect every other aspect to stay the same as Independent Mountain Jewelry Co. moves into this new phase of life.

I will be slowly transitioning from Sparkle + Stone to Independent Mountain Jewelry Co. over the course of the next few months. The logo and look of the company will stay exactly the same, but our IG handle, Facebook page, and website will be changing over the next few weeks. I look forward to the new identity of my beloved little company and have some new pieces to share with you soon as well.

Summer Is Coming...

Erin Trumble

Memorial Day weekend marks the official start of summertime up here in the Rocky Mountains. It seems crazy to think that the snow is almost (Yes, I said almost.) melted, and we’ll be wearing sundresses and sandals in no time! And there’s nothing that I love more than the sun on my shoulders, something on the BBQ, a fancy cold beverage, and…… the perfect earrings. Lightweight earrings that make a statement are my go-to for summertime. That’s why the HANNAH EARRINGS are my favorite this summer.

Bust out the nice mason jars, because this Memorial Day weekend you’ll find me socially distanced in the backyard with some killer ribs and a delish homemade mocktail. I’ve been craving my favorite tea blend from Alpine Botanicals, Hibiscus Rose. Tt is so tart and refreshing and ultra-hydrating after spending the day in the sun. I’m gonna spice it up a little with some ginger beer and mint fresh from the garden.

The Art of the Graceful Pivot

Erin Trumble

Well, here we are now, ten weeks into this crazy new world of COVID. As a small business owner who is directly affected by the success of other small businesses, this has been a scary time. Those of us in this situation have learned a new term that has become the life force of our time spent in isolation….pivot. Taking what we have done for so so long and shifting it in new directions to make it work.

If there is one person who could write a book on The Art of the Graceful Pivot, it’s my friend Ashley. And no, it’s not just because she’s got some killer hip-hop dance moves (but seriously she does! Check out her IG stories). This woman is an insanely talented wedding and lifestyle photographer—named The Knot Best of Weddings for the past three years in a row! But because of all of the wedding cancellations, as you can imagine her business has been put on hold. And here it comes….the graceful pivot.

But I’ll let her tell that story:

During quarantine I got real bored and very scared while trying to pivot my business in a pandemic. Needless to say there were lots of coffee brainstorming meetings (with myself) that turned into happy hours which inevitably turned into the norm. 🤷🏻‍♀️
.
I put out some feelers on IG for small businesses interest in product shots. Contactless options for my business and theirs! Some of my favorite businesses reached out and I got to create some magic for them while I felt lost and confused about where my business was going.
.
Enter @sparkle_and_stone. Erin custom made my wedding earrings and I’ve been obsessed with her creations and frankly her vibe for a longtime now. I received a package of her beautiful jewelry and I went to work.
.
I felt alive. It was a new way to express myself, while creating art for my favorite small businesses. So, now I’m hooked because @sparkle_and_stonejust updated her website with the new images and it looks so badass. She’s gonna sell out of al her goodies so you better RUN to her store and grab yourself some accessories for when we get to hang with other humans again.
.
If you’re a small business and need product shots for your website, social media content, Etsy store, please reach out and let’s create some gold.
.
If you’ve read this far, virtual high-fives and a good ol’ smack on the buttocks to you.

I stole that from Ashley’s Instagram, which you should definitely follow.

Contact her for all of your photography needs and enjoy this fun little video project that she created!

It just so happened that Ashley and I were mid-pivot at the same time, and as we shook our booties together, we made magic happen! I am so grateful for all the product photography that she’s done for me to make this website a reality, and for being an amazing example of how beautiful, empowering, and uplifting this creative industry/community can be.
